Introduction to the Mayo Ninjas

Newcomers to the club are offered a free trial class, at which all questions regarding future membership, class fees and any other queries can be discussed.

Classes are held as follows:

Juniors: Tuesdays and Thursdays 4.30 – 5.30
Seniors (roughly 13+); Thursdays only 5.30-7.00

summer classes

there will be a free training session at white tiger castlebar on saturday 25th june from 2.30pm onwards. there will be no-one teaching as such and the day will consist of everyone demonstrating a technique beginning with the highest rank and working down. the theme will be empty hand.

this event is for BFD members and personal guests only but if you want to invite someone just ask me. donations appreciated

Other class dates for summer are as follows:

June: 28th and 30th class as normal

July: 14th, 21st and 28th only: 1.30-5.30 kids, 5.30-7.00 adults

August: 4th and 11th only, times as for July

holiday classes

class times for easter and summer holidays will most likely be as follows, on THURSDAYS ONLY:

1.30-5.30 kids’ summer camp (up to about 12 years old),
5.30-7.00 adults (about 13+)

i will probably take the last two weeks off in august, i.e. classes on 18th and 25th august will not go ahead. in any case, watch this space or ask at the dojo for updates.

classes update

due to a variety of circumstances mainly beyond our control, the robeen class has been terminated. all students from there are very welcome at our sole remaining venue, white tiger in castlebar

st patrick’s day

this thursday (st patrick’s day) we are meeting at

the dojo around 2 o’clock to get dressed up for the

parade. thus there will be no class at 3.30 but we

hope to be back by 4.30 for a combined class if

anyone is up for it, then the adults’ class will be on

as usual from 5.30

classes update

the westport class never recovered after the frost so we have been obliged to refer those keen students to castlebar white tiger. shame but there you go. tuesdays and thursdays only from now on

seminar update

what a day! can’t wait for tommy to come over to mayo again this spring / summer.

in the end a total of four mayo people got to dalkey this weekend; i will be going to dublin for classes on sundays regularly from now on, ideally on a 4-6 week rotation, all other things being equal, and you are all very welcome to join me

seminar update

we now have 6 mayo people confirmed for the tommy lawlor seminar. still one space left in the car!

also it’s great to see the seniors class taking off at last, we have half a dozen new recruits as well as the usual suspects. keep it up lads!

Upcoming events

Happy new year, everyone.

Classes are pretty much back to normal now after a very slow start from the break and the awful weather but we are still in all three venues and growing steadily. the senior class in particular is finally showing some promise with several young adults starting from scratch, and those who have been training regularly over the past year have been invited to tommy lawlor’s seminar in dublin on the 26th of this month.

whilst there i intend to ask tommy if he’ll come to the west again soon so please make every effort to attend classes regularly as i expect he will want to see how we’re getting on with this year’s theme. the kihon happo is not as easy as it looks, as we all discover once we try doing it, so a year based around it will do none of us any harm

also duncan stewart is coming to dublin in april and i will be going if at all possible. duncan is a lovely man and a day’s seminar with him is probably as good as three classes in japan so well worth going down for. check the link
